In a significant move towards advancing professional development and social equity in healthcare and senior services, Lutheran Services Carolinas (LSC) has awarded prestigious scholarships to two Salisbury-based teammates, demonstrating the organization's commitment to advancing equal opportunities and professional growth.
Empowering Healthcare Workers Through Education
Billie Marie Logsdon, a certified nursing assistant and medical aide at Trinity Oaks health and rehab, received the prestigious Grady Scholarship. The award, established through E. B. Grady Jr.'s bequest, specifically supports professional advancement on the Trinity Oaks campus. Logsdon, who joined LSC in 2023, is pursuing her licensed practical nurse certification at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
"I see education as a bridge: a bridge to practice within a work community and to contribute more professionally to a shared vision," Logsdon stated, highlighting the transformative power of educational access.
Advancing Organizational Leadership
Cora Ingle, whose role spans teammate specialist and former life enrichment director, exemplifies LSC's commitment to fostering institutional growth and development. Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in organizational communication and management at Wingate University, Ingle received an LSC Scholarship to further enhance her decade-long contribution to the organization.
Broader Impact on Community Services
These scholarships, part of a larger $22,340 investment in ten teammates across the Carolinas, reflect LSC's dedication to strengthening community safety and support systems. The organization serves over 10,000 individuals through:
- 11 senior living communities in North Carolina
- Seven refugee resettlement offices across both Carolinas
- Adult day programs and group homes
- Foster care and adoption services
- Mental health and recovery services
- Disaster response programs
